Day One: Jump In & Drive

Today marks a 45 hour cross country adventure. It was 6:45 this morning when I woke up. It was just about time to dive into the open road with the crew. We all gathered at Greg’s parent’s house. Loaded up all the band gear, including our personals. Then jumped in the van and left Phoenix. Destination: New York. When sitting in the van for such a long period of time, you begin to almost feel like a pirate in today’s society. In this van, or as we like to refer to it, the pirate ship, we sail the open road. We are never in one place for a long amount of time. It’s as if we’re criminals on the run, but were not running from anything. We’re actually driving toward obstacles. You’re almost certain to encounter treacherous environments that pack presents such as snow, rain  and black ice, just to name a few. We will be facing more realistic obstacles during this time of year. Just crossing the Rockies in a van and trailer can be a pain, but really nothing is painful about traveling with five of your best friends. One of the things you eventually love is Love’s, the best gas station on the open road. As I write this we are currently driving across the country. If the van was a razor blade, the United States would be cut in half. If the apocalypse just so happens to come while I’m on this journey, I’ll go down mentally aware of the fact that I at least lived my life with style.
