I’m still trying to figure out if Project Unicorn/Unicorn Media is just an independent version of Hulu, featuring unheard-of (but still high quality) videos and music, a way to promote new filmmakers and musicians, or some global media company hell-bent on restructuring the way we consume content. Either way, we’re looking at hours of content. Check out some films here, and independent music here.
Their videos may take a second to load, but all and all they’re worth it, in High-Def . For instance, take a look at this one about the Hubble Telescope:
Yeah, yeah, the British accent does immediately lend a certain degree of credibility, but the overall production of this video is magnificent. You can check out their blog here to sift through more good content.
Also, Project Unicorn is looking for more quality programming. If you make good movies or music — no, really, GOOD movies or music, buster. We’re talking if people besides your mother and girlfriend/boyfriend who think your art is legit — check out what they’re about.
There was something in their Terms of use about being able to grant royalty-free mechanical rights and performance distribution, and I’m not sure if that’s legalese for “your product shouldn’t contain samples and such” or if “you’re going to waive your right to get paid for this shit.” I’ll get my lawyer on it right away.
In related news, I sighted a Unicorn during SXSW:

…I would say both.
