Thrice Wins at Making Records

There’s a reason no one wants to buy, or let alone make, an album these days. 99% of the time the artwork and packaging are just the same regurgitated shit we’ve seen over and over again (if you think I’m joking, swing by our office and look at the thousands of disks that look identical to each other). It seems to be a pretty generic formula, really: indie CD’s get a watercolor paining of a tree or the ocean or a leaf, screamo records have some dark ass dissonant garbage on it, metal is anything dying or hellish with a black wash over it, these new synth-pop bands have their names in bright colors and rap gets bling. It’s pathetic, unartistic and makes us never want to look at the CD.

When Trice’s new albums, The Alchemy Index v. I-IV, came out, I was stoked not only that they put out amazing material, but that they did a sleek job with packaging, as the disks were bound in a denim like cloth. Not to be outdone by themselves, they’re releasing the full set on 4 vinyls, and it’s going to be sick.

his item will ship on or before the release date of 2/17/09

The Alchemy Index is a two-volume collection comprised of four EPs, each devoted to one of the essential elements in nature—fire, water, air and earth—with each EP sonically and thematically tailored to evoke the atmosphere inherent in its corresponding element.

Each of the 4 EP’s will be pressed on 10” colored vinyl -the Fire EP is red, Water is blue, Earth is brown and Air is on clear vinyl. The discs will be inside a hand-bound hardcover book complete with lyrics, liner notes and commentary from the band.
