Luis Dubuc, the brains and brawn behind Texas’ The Secret Handshake,
has been putting out some quality electronic pop-rock since about 2004, and it looks like there’s no stop to his current project anytime soon. Dubuc is just about ready to drop his latest release,y Name Up In Lights, which is set to come out on April 21st via Triple Crown. Cursive Update, Plus General Saddle Creek News
Posted on 04. Feb, 2009 by spencer in Music
There are a few writers here at Synthesis who swear by Omaha noisy indie-rockers Cursive. Personally, I’m on the fence about them, having seen some hit-or-miss shows. But they’re at least worthy of a listen, and with their new album dropping this April, I plan on letting them have another shot at winning my heart.
Cursive – Mama, I’s Swollen – CD/Digital March 10, 2009, LP April 21, 2009
…Mama, I’m Swollen is an album brimming with the universal, questioning the human condition, social morality, and the ”Peter Pan Syndrome” of grown [...]

Breath easy internet, I have returned to my blogging post. Over the last week and a half I’ve been journeying up the Pacific Coast with Bear Hunter . As it turns out, when I try and write on my laptop while in the van I start to puke all over my band mates — hence, my absence from Synthesis Blog. Over the next few days I will be recounting my harrowing journey (in between fascinating posts about pop stars getting busted for drugs, children with weird growths on their bodies [...]
“Excuse me sir, could you spare a cigarette?”

So there’s this bum hangout right around the corner from the Synthesis office. It’s like this shelter for young adults who want to sit around all day smoking cigarettes and hanging on the couch in the air conditioning with their pit bull mix instead of, well, anything else. Today on my way to get coffee, Dain and I walked by this young derelict who asks, almost as an afterthought, if he could bum a cigarette. It might have been a cold move, but this was my response:
I think singing [...]
The Kooks Konk It Out
Posted on 17. Apr, 2008 by AJ in Blog, Music
The highly touted boys from Brighton are back with their sophomore release, Konk, that hit stores earlier this week, but some are questioning whether the pre-release hype matches the merit. The Kook’s debut release Inside In/Inside Out was exceedingly well received, but reviews for Konk have been mixed. Betty Clarke of The Guardian gave the record 4 out 5 stars saying, “The woolliness of their debut has been replaced with a determined pop sound that dips into hard-edged rock,†but New Music Express was less than optimistic, and rather disappointed:
“What’s [...]
