Weird to think San Francisco band Or, the Whale began through a Craigslist ad titled, “Wanna Form a Sweet Country Rock Band?” It worked. The last four years have brought much success for Or, the Whale with appearances on Good Morning America and USA Today, a spread in Billboard mag and sold-out shows. Their mix of country folk rock has had them touring with the Devil Makes 3, The Dodos and more.

If you’re looking for a little dose of Pavement-meets-female-vaudeville, look no further than Portland, OR’s Paper Brain.
At five pieces strong, Paper Brain seems to have the rare quality of blending significant parts piano into the frame of loose and light-hearted rock ‘n’ roll. Without pretension, Aint Nobody Cares boasts undeniable Malkmus feels with the likes of “Overgrown,” while cohesively incorporating the mature womanhood of a cut like “Chemicals.”

Portland High School Tells Kids To Shave Off Their Eyebrows Or Don’t Come Back

Centennial High School in Portland, OR has decided that kids shaving lines in their eyebrows a la Soulja Boy is SERIOUS FUCKING BUSINESS. Any student caught with thusly groomed eyebrows is being sent home until they shave off their eyebrows completely:
Centennial administrators are telling students with the lines that they can’t return to school until they shave their eyebrows off. Assistant Principal Mark Porterfield said the students are not suspended, but they are not allowed in school until they cooperate.
