Stardeath and White Dwarfs
The Birth
Warner Bros.
The guys in Stardeath and White Dwarfs used to be the road crew for the Flaming Lips. Upon listening to their debut full-length, one ponders how much acid they ate touring with the Lips because The Birth is definitely a trip. This wonderful album shifts moods and musical styles in a way that is both seamless and slippery. When you think you’ve grasped it, there’s a change into something unexpected. The Birth opens with the grand psych rock of “The Sea Is On Fire,†mutates [...]
Oklahoma House Rejects The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize?” as Official State Rock Song. Someone needs to vote out some gray-hairs.

The Oklahoma House has rejected the classic Flaming Lips song “Do You Realize??, Pt. 1″ from Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
as the state’s official rock song, reportedly because bassist/engineer Michael Ivins wore a t-shirt with a hammer & sickle to the state capital.
Hey, isn’t Russia supposed to be our ally now?
You can vote to make Oklahoma seem less idiotic here. Right now they’re losing pretty badly.
BUT WAIT! There’s more! From News OK:
Update:
Gov. Brad Henry announced Thursday evening that he will sign an executive order on Tuesday naming the Flaming [...]
Flaming Lips Added to Pitchfork Festival
Posted on 27. Mar, 2009 by spencer in Music
Say what you will about Pitchfork the media entity, but their concert this July looks legit. Latest addition: The Flaming Lips.Oh, and fans are writing their set list. Here’s my official vote for “Psychiatric Exploration of the Fetus with Needles.” EDIT: That last bit was not actual truth. But I still want them to play “Psychiatric Exploration of the Fetus with Needles.”

Third Eye Blind Is Too Cool For Synthesis.net
Posted on 24. Oct, 2008 by spencer in Art
I’ve just been informed that Third Eye Blind, the San Francisco band responsible for writing a catchy song about meth addiction ten years ago and haven’t done anything notable since, have decided to tell Synthesis.net to piss off.
Here I was, ready to feign interest about them. Big loss.
Good Reason To Visit Oklahoma City: Flaming Lips and the March of 1,000 Flaming Skeletons

Oh Holy God Yes! If you know anything about the Flaming Lips then you know the 2nd annual March of 1,000 Flaming Skeletons will be nothing less than epic. I’m talking orcs storming Helm’s Deep epic. Prometheus stealing fire from the Gods epic. Faith No More’s “Epic” reproduced from a thousand dimed Marshall stacks epic.

Super Furry Animals VideoCast
Posted on 27. Feb, 2008 by spencer in Music
A few short weeks ago VideoMatt and I drove down to San Francisco to interview and film Welsh experimental rock outfit the Super Furry Animals. And while the live video shoot was kinda a bust (our pre-planned three camera shoot last-minute reduced to one camera) we did end up chatting with SFA singer Gruff Rhys for a long time. Here’s the fruits of our labors. Their latest album, Hey Venus! is available now.
