Punk Goes Pop 2 Drops March 3rd

I remember when the first Punk Goes Pop was released: I was probably in my sophomore year in high school, most likely filled with angst and a little THC. The album was released right around the time the teen queens and boy bands were starting to sell millions of records on a daily basis, and the CD was pretty bad ass considering there were covers of artists like Mandy Moore and Madonna. Quick note: Yellowcard throws down a mean version of Michelle Branch’s “Everywhere”.
The latest installment of the Punk Goes… series seems pretty legit, [...]

Fearless Records is probably one of the sickest labels around, and we’ve hooked up with them to give you free shit in honor of this summer’s Warped Tour. Here’s what you get: posters from Fearless bands that are on Warped, CD’s from Alesana, Every Avenue, Mayday Parade, and Video Matt’s current band crush, The Maine. In addition, you can have as many of these damn Korn vinyls as we can give away… they make great frisbees. Check out this poster for everything I just told you, [...]
At The Drive-In to ear-pummel Mars Volta Fans via Guitar Hero IV

No, I didn’t actually see At The Drive In live when I had the chance. All my friends raved about them, but I was too busy being a hippy to take much notice. Hell, I was still figuring out the Dismemberment Plan, and all ATDI’s wiry guitars confused and scared me just a little bit. My brain wasn’t ready for their epic assault until a month before they broke up and splintered into Sparta (yay!) and Mars Volta (blech). Then did I actually sit down and check out what all [...]
Punk Goes Crunk… YeeAAAaaAAAAA!!!!!1!!
Posted on 03. Apr, 2008 by Dallas VonKillbot in Music
The Punk Goes compilations have always been pretty cool. Video Matt basically falls asleep at night with a smile on his face every night listening to Punk Goes Pop (specifically Slick Shoes cover of Mandy Moore’s ‘Candy’).
The latest edition to the series is Punk Goes Crunk, featuring 15 dope-ass tracks to make the homies say ho! and the girlies wanna scream. With songs from the dropped Yo! Indie Rock Raps that was scheduled to be released on Immortal Records, the disk contains Dre, Biggie and Lil Jon [...]
Crunk is Dead

In case the 12-year-old suburban high school douchebags in all-over-print hoodies and stunner shades weren’t proof enough that crunk/hyphy/etc. al hadn’t jumped the shark long ago, the latest nail in the coffin comes courtesy of our friends at Fearless Records, who today announced their plans for a Punk Goes Crunk compiliation. From the press release:
Fearless Records (Plain White T’s, Sugarcult, Mayday Parade) will release Punk Goes Crunk in April 2008. This compilation will feature popular rock, pop, screamo, and punk artists covering popular rap and hip-hop tracks.
Punk Goes Crunk will [...]

So today in the mail, I got the latest in the Fearless Records series of Punk Goes compilations, entitled Punk Goes Acoustic 2, and the first track was…..Jack’s Mannequin. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Don’t get me wrong, I like cheesy piano emo as much as the next teen girl, but “punk?” There ain’t no piano in punk, son.
