The End of An Era
Pick up your favorite magazine and compare it to an issue from 2006. Notice any difference? Across the board, quality of paper and page count are down in 2009. But it’s increasingly unlikely that you would do such a thing, as people don’t buy magazines anymore. The print media world is staring down the barrel of inevitability’s loaded gun. At the end of the newspaper/magazine epoch we find the most popular titles grasping at straws to preserve their dwindling margin. Case in point: Maxim’s cover is an unabashed, paid advertisement (for an energy shot, no less). Hell, even the most esteemed men’s magazine, Playboy, switched to a bi-monthy print schedule. One of the cataclysms scheduled for 2012 will certainly be the end of the print era.
