Talk about romantic! Wow. Genuine artist Jairo Zavala (DePedro) will win the hearts of many ladies and gentlemen with DePedro. Zavala has taken some time out from his busy schedule of playing and performing with other acts, most notably Calexico, to seemingly do something for himself and a sure favor to those listening. “Como El Viento” exhibits Zavala’s passion and authentic suave nature; throughout DePedro are carefully picked acoustic guitars, subtle drumming with brushes, perfectly placed mellow horn sections and most notably Jairo’s smooth vocals spoken in Spanish, with the exception of two English tracks, “Two Parts In One” and “Tomorrow.” Introductory banjo solos on “La Memoria” make way for gleeful swaying and hip-shaking. Whereas the Spanish influences found in Calexico are more modern and infused, Zavala’s work in DePedro is far more traditional and inherently his own.
