Adult Swim Adds Superjail! to Line-up
Over-the-top Animation and Comedy Bring New Original Series to Life on Sept. 28
Heavy animation and violence run rampant in Adult Swim’s newest original series Superjail! Created by Christy Karacas, Stephen Warbrick and Ben Gruber, the series uses flash animation to create traditional animation gags that move at a dizzying pace. Superjail is the most intense and complicated jail in the universe, residing on a remote island under the tedious eye of the mysterious and slightly delirious Warden. The animated original series will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 11:45 p.m. (ET, PT).
The psychedelic landscape of Superjail! features dangerous criminals, fantastic creatures and frequent riots. The design of Superjail may be more self-serving to the Warden over anything else with its bizarre contraptions and mechanisms. The Warden watches over every square inch of Superjail like a crazed big brother in his chaotically crafted prison. Criminals may escape from time to time, but their heinous crimes undoubtedly bring them back to Superjail.
Ten episodes of Superjail! have been produced at Augenblick Studios in Brooklyn, NY for Adult Swim. Series creators and executive producers Christy Karacas (Cartoon Sushi) and Stephen Warbick (Beavis and Butthead, Celebrity Deathmatch, Daria, Ice Age 2, Horton Hears a Who) first began working together as animators at MTV Animation. Creative consultants on the series include John Lee (Xavier: Renegade Angel, Wonder Showzen), Chris McCullough (The Venture Bros.) and Jon Glaser (Assy McGee, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Wonder Showzen). The series’ theme song “Comin’ Home†was also written and performed by Cheeseburger (Christy Karacas).
