A sure fire way to get people to do something is to make it into a game.
This is why babysitters everywhere have developed the “let’s see who can be quiet the longest” game, or if you’re creative- coughlikemecough- you might play the “let’s see who can find the remote first” game. Or the, “let’s see who can fold my laundry the fastest” game with younger siblings.
What do you know, it works with (supposedly) mature adults as well.
Some clever geeks out there have taken this principle and applied it to something we don’t seem to need any convincing to do on our own: drinking. By somehow cobbling together a breathalyzer and an old NES game, they’ve created a cartridge you can breathe into which measures your drunkness and awards you a prize based on how sloshed you’ve gotten. And yes, there are high scores.
As if there weren’t incentive enough for getting hammered. Oh, dear.
See it in action here.
