I remember when the first Punk Goes Pop was released: I was probably in my sophomore year in high school, most likely filled with angst and a little THC. The album was released right around the time the teen queens and boy bands were starting to sell millions of records on a daily basis, and the CD was pretty bad ass considering there were covers of artists like Mandy Moore and Madonna. Quick note: Yellowcard throws down a mean version of Michelle Branch’s “Everywhere”.
The latest installment of the Punk Goes… series seems pretty legit, minus the fact that I feel really dated considering I don’t know half the bands covering these hits. What scares me to death is trying to figure how a song like Rob Thomas’ ” Smooth”, which featured guitar virtuoso Carlos Santana, is going to be pulled off by Escape the Fate.
Fearless Records (Plain White T’s, Mayday Parade, The Maine) is proud to announce their latest addition to the Punk Goes series, “Punk Goes Pop 2,” which is set to release on March 10, 2009. The hottest cover compilation album on the planet will be all about the POP this time around, and will feature popular rock, hardcore, screamo, and punk artists covering the catchiest POP songs to date from artists such as Britney Spears, Sean Kinston, and The Fray!
The following bands and tracks will appear on “Punk Goes Pop 2.”
Alesana- “What Goes Around…Comes Around” by Justin Timberlake
Attack Attack- “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry
August Burns Red- “…Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears
Bayside- “Beautiful Girls” by Sean Kingston
Breathe Carolina- “See You Again” by Miley Cyrus
The Cab- “Disturbia” by Rihanna
A Day To Remember- “Over My Head (Cable Car)” by The Fray
Escape The Fate- “Smooth” by Rob Thomas
Four Year Strong- “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles
Mayday Parade- “When I Grow Up” by Pussycat Dolls
Silverstein- “Apologize” by One Republic
A Static Lullaby- “Toxic” by Britney Spears
There For Tomorrow- “Ice Box” by Omarion
This record is going to give Video Matt wet dreams for a month.
