Booze

Ozeki Sake arrived late to a recent sushi party but proved itself a mighty warrior amongst competitors. It was the most rapidly drained, despite the low price of $7 a fifth (750 ml) at Ray’s Liquor. Initially, the beverage is strong and bitter, like cough syrup. However, the flavor, less sweet than many contemporaries, quickly relaxes. Smelling of black licorice, the beverage numbs with a sweet aftertaste and throat tingle. The Ozeki company’s experience extends back almost 300 years; in antiquity the title “Ozeki” was given to sumo champions. Ozeki now celebrates its 30th year of American production; ingredients are carefully chosen, its water sloughs off the Sierra Nevadas and rice thrives in Sacramento. Drop a shot in your beer for an excellent Sake Bomb.
