Editor's Review:

On his third solo album, Fridge’s bassist Adem shows that he has great taste by covering songs by PJ Harvey, Yo La Tengo, Smashing Pumpkins, Björk and the Breeders, among others, on this all-covers disc. Unfortunately, only half the songs are successfully interpreted into Adem’s acoustic guitar-based style, while the others sound like a generic sad guy playing at a coffee shop. His take on Bedhead’s “Bedside Table” has a suitably sleepy beginning that contrasts well with the subtle sense of tension raised at the song’s ending. Best of all, Adem has the balls to attempt an unplugged cover of two Aphex Twin songs with “To Cure A Weakling Child/Boy Girl Song” and he succeeds quite well by employing various percussion instruments.

Bio[+]

Hey there, Adem here. I make music, put out by Domino Records. I have a new album due out; 'Takes' is an album of covers of music I love from the period 1991-2001. I've released two albums previously: Homesongs(2004) and Love and other planets(2006) and singles surrounding them. I play a whole bunch of colourful broken instruments and sing. I produce my own work, mostly in my home. I also make experimental instrumental music in Fridge and run a mass improvisation group called Assembly. I humbly invite you to visit my website www.adem.tv where you can find out a lot more
