Speaking of the infernal idiocy that is right-wing talk radio, perennial shitdick Michael Savage has drawn the ire of rich people with autistic children with his recent on air remarks about autism diasgnoses being used as an excuse for parental failures:
“They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life,’ ” Savage said during his show. ” ‘Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, you idiot.’ “
A crowd of 50 to 60 people gathered in front of KNEW radio’s Townsend Street offices Sunday to protest the decision by KNEW and Talk Radio Network, the company that syndicates Savage’s shows, to keep him on the air despite his controversial statements.
“Michael Savage’s remarks were hurtful to the safety and the well-being of vulnerable children and we want him off the air,” said Evelyn Ain, president of Autism United in Long Island, whose 8-year-old son has autism. “If this (KNEW) and other radio stations don’t stop carrying Savage’s signal, then we will pursue every advertiser until they drop him.”
Ain was joined at the protest by Craig Johnson, a New York state senator from Long Island, who has advocated for spending on autism issues and education, and by Alice Lai-Bitker, an Alameda County supervisor, and others.
Does any one else wonder why talk radio is dominated by idiots and mouth breathing white dudes, besides of course the fact that most Americans are ignorant assholes? I’ve always figured that anyone smart enough to actually hold any sort of educated opinion is too busy listening to music to fuck with talk radio.

Autism, ass burgers syndrome and ADHD are too easily diagnosed and used as an excuse to hand out pills instead of unplugging the kids from the telly and teaching them self responsibly and critical thinking. Sure many kids have mental health issues but there are more being passed off as mongs for convenience sake by the parents who give them cell phones and playstations for a quiet life.
You are correct that these syndromes can easily be misdiagnosed, but by the same token, there are many, many kids out there that do indeed suffer from the legitimate illnesses. Michael Savage’s comments were uncalled for.
