Mervyns To Shut Down All 149 Stores

So Mervyn’s is finally fucking off. Man I’d be really fucking bummed if this was 1987 and I was going back to school shopping with my cheap-ass mom looking for husky-sized Levi’s and Reebok’s. But hey, its 2008 and no one gives a fuck about Mervyn’s because all the po’ folks go to Wal-Mart and anyone with a hint of dignity goes anywhere else.

No surprise here…writing was on the wall when Sun Capital and partners bought Mervyn’s in 2004. Sun Capital stripped Mervyn’s of all its assets in the last 4 years, made false promises to employees and now that there is nothing left to sell off…close em down! For myself I got tired of all the lies and quit 2 years ago. I am sure they are still making promises they will not keep. I bet manager bonuses for 2008 get cancelled. Upper management are just puppets and are probally still throwing out carrots to stores hoping to retain its employees. I am sure Sun Capital had a 5 year plan which included chapter 7. Years ago Mervyn’s was a great store to shop and work at. I am not sorry to see them go…the stores where being transformed into “little Mexico” stores anyways, stores looked like crap due to no employees staffed and what employees you could find had terrible attitudes.
This was a long time coming! I just feel bad for all of my hard working friends that stayed out of loyalty. I left about a month ago–the tent/sidewalk sales were too demoralizing–not to mention celebrating Mexican Independence Day. The company was stripped and then tossed aside. The associates never mattered to Sun Capital and Cerebrus, or Target for that matter. They were lied to and are still being kept in the dark! Too bad because when I joined the company 15 years ago the associates mattered and were taken care of. It’s a very sad day…….
P.S. Manager bonuses ended a long time before 2008!!!
