I think I still owe John Vanderslice a box of chocolate for messing up our interview time when we interviewed him for Emerald City. If the whole album can be deduced from the sound of “Fetal Horses,” Romanian Names is full of incredible melodies, prickly parts and general JV goodness. Plus, he’s on tour with the Mountain Goats this May (show dates after the jump, but put 5/19 on your calendar if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area).

Dead Oceans would like to preview the album with an mp3 of the first song written for the album, “Fetal Horsesâ€.
Romanian Names will be released on May 19th (18th in the U.K.).
