He Is Legend
It Hates You
Tragic Hero
It’s safe to say any long time fan of the Legend boys will be confused to death over their newest effort, It Hates You. Sure, they’re still the same southern-metal band with infinitely dark lyrics, but the rest is up in the air. Definitive riffing has now been replaced by ambient arpeggios and cliché power chords, which leads to rather dissonant, yet overly familiar sounds. Despite the repetition of melodic themes, tracks like “China White III†are a pinnacle of the band’s work, showing raw intensity through the unfamiliar medium of mellow blues-rock. The addition of female vocal solos a là Pink Floyd beautifully contrast the raspy vocals, paving way for a more mature sound. It Hates You isn’t Legend’s White Album, but it’s a great step in a new direction.
