The recent monkey-faced pig born in China, is just one stellar example of the neurological malformation Holoprosencephaly, which causes animals, and humans to be born with severe facial deformities that sometimes can resemble the cyclops of ancient legend.

Um, no it wasn’t. Some people went around assuming that it was because they were all like “that pig’s grill is fucked” and “hey, doesn’t China just go around genetically engineering all the time and stuff” and decided that those two facts just MUST go together.
But that’s not the case here. That pig is a textbook example of holoprosencephaly, which is a pretty uncommon, but naturally-occurring birth defect.

But not all have severe disfigurements so stop fucking complaining if you don’t know shit about it. Just a simple matter of chance in most cases, a signalling molecule called Shh can have an impaired function which can lead to this syndrome, which is simply the failure of one step of development to occur, the splitting of a uniform lobe into two distinct hemispheres. The matter of the one eye is due to the fact that the eye originally splits off in its fundamental form from a region of the developing cerebral hemisphere but in this case, there is only one copy of that region.

I had a little sister who had Holoprosencephaly she died a couple years back……..she looked nothing like this. The major defect and disfigurement is the cleft palate or cleft lip. So this whole cyclops legend bullshit can just get pushed aside. This is just so fucking stupid really all of this complaining about some fucking health defect. So fuck this shit.
